Job Description

Summary: This position establishes the strategic vision and direction for the instructional framework and pedagogical approach to CMS’s academic programs and is instrumental in maximizing academic achievement in every classroom. Provides leadership in accordance with the district’s educational philosophy, long range goals, and objectives and ensures the strategic plan is fully realized throughout the organization.

Essential Duties:

Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s executive leadership staff.
Reports to and informs the Superintendent on all matters related to areas of learning and teaching, continuous improvement planning, and student assessment.
Assists the Superintendent with the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan and long-range system goals.
Directs the implementation, coordination, and evaluation of instructional programs and recommends appropriate changes to increase student achievement.
Ensures the implementation of instructional programs that foster 21st century learning for students including Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.
Prepares and effectively delivers reports and recommendations for the Superintendent, the Board of Education and other stakeholders regarding all aspects of instructional programs and student achievement.
Directs, supervises, and evaluates instructional supervisors, holding them accountable for achieving results in students learning.
Directs instructional leadership training for content supervisors, principals, assistant principals, and aspiring administrators.
Provides instructional/curricular input to new teacher orientation and mentoring programs.
Provides oversight for instructional support services to ensure that the needs of students are met in the areas of English Language Learners, advanced programs, and technical education.
Provides oversight for Title I, Title II, and other grant-funded instructional programs.
Serves as liaison to the Board of Education for academics.
Supports, develops, and implements system policy and directives related to learning and teaching.
Establishes, monitors, and maintains procedures that enable the division to operate in a manner that is fiscally sound while maximizing the use of human resources and supporting the vision and mission of the district.
Develops and administers the annual operating budget and monitors direct instructional expenditures.
Assists administrators in the planning and implementation of effective programs of professional development to improve student learning.
Provides direction for the selection and use of instructional technology, textbooks, and other teaching materials.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with school districts, and other stakeholders to keep abreast of new educational trends and ideas and legislative changes impacting the field of public education.
Keeps current with educational reform initiatives and literature in the field of education; participate in state and national professional organizations devoted to the advancement of teaching and learning.
Performs other duties and assume other responsibilities as the Superintendent may assign

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:
Minimum

Master’s Degree in School Administration;
Five years of teaching experience, five years of school-based/district experience
Desirable

Ph.D. or Ed.D. in School Administration;
Over five years of teaching experience, over five years of school-based/district administrative experience
Licensing / Certification Requirements:

Superintendent’s License or Principal’s License
